TECORE Awarded Patent for Multi-Protocol Wireless Convergence Platform; Patent Bolsters Unique Ability to Provide Cellular/WiFi Convergence

Sept. 22, 2005

Wireless Systems, has been awarded a patent (No. 6,912,230) covering the multi-protocol architecture of its AirCore(R) Mobile Switching System. The architecture provides the industry's only one-box solution that can support multiple protocols, including GSM, CDMA, and 3G, making it the ideal solution for edge-of-the-network applications. These applications, such as airborne systems, shipboard systems, and enterprise network systems, require the ability to support universal services that span the subscriber base and wireless network technologies.

"With the pending deployments of Voice over WiFi, converged solutions are essential. Being able to bridge 2G wireless systems with IP based technologies from a single platform is the key to addressing multi-technology applications at the edge of the network," said Jay Salkini, president and CEO, TECORE Wireless Systems. Using its simultaneous multi-technology support, the AirCore Mobile Switching Center provides technology consolidation on a single platform. This combination of technology and protocol support is the foundation for the future of converging telecom applications.

The multi-protocol support allows for customizable solutions in coverage and technology while specifically addressing the needs and requirements of the given installation. This provides operators with the flexibility to combine technologies and assists in the introduction of dual-mode WiFi/cellular phones, which are now making their way to the marketplace.

"The multi-protocol solution is also extensible to the enterprise," said Casey Joseph, chief technical officer, TECORE Wireless Systems. "TECORE provides a wireless IP PBX solution that allows operators, MVNOs, and WiFi system suppliers to capture fixed line revenue and provides PBX services on mobile handsets. When in the office, the handset functions as part of the corporate network. When users travel outside of the enterprise WLAN, their handsets seamlessly transition to the cellular network."

This is a win-win solution for corporate users, MVNOs, WiFi system suppliers, and operators. The system provides improved service quality, as well as, the opportunity for customized features in corporate offices and reduces churn of high value clients. It also allows for a single phone number and single voicemail, which provides the integrated convenience and connectivity required in today's communication driven environment.
