Digicel Jamaica Announces Increased Customer Base

11/09/2005

Digicel, announced that Digicel's Jamaica operations has reached a milestone of 1.376 million subscribers as a result of the company's strong customer-centric focus and success over the past four and a half years.

Digicel Jamaica gained 24,000 new subscribers in the month of October 2005 alone as the company continued to focus on its customers' needs, offering handset trade-ins from other networks as well as promotions such as J$1 per SMS (text), J$1 calls at night, and discounts on state-of-the-art handsets. Based on customer satisfaction surveys by Marketing Strategy Ltd., a Jamaica-based market research organization, Digicel ranked number one in customer service in the Jamaica market for the past four quarters among all other service brands in the country.

"We are delighted with our continued growth in Jamaica. The fact that our customer base now equals over half of the population represents a sound endorsement that we are offering a valued and quality service," said Mr. David Hall, CEO of Digicel Jamaica. "Our customer-centric approach, simplicity in tariffs and rates, and easy access to new offerings, has ensured that we are consistently in the number one position for excellent customer service in the country."

Digicel launched its first operation in Jamaica in April 2001 as the country's first GSM mobile service, ending a long-standing monopoly. In the first 100 days of operation, 100,000 subscribers were secured -- a goal originally established for the company's one year mark. With investments in the Caribbean exceeding US$600 million, Digicel has built the infrastructure to provide nearly 100 percent of network coverage in Jamaica, bringing telecommunications service to local and rural residents that never before had a viable option with the incumbent provider.

According to Digicel Group CEO, Mr Colm Delves, "Digicel's success in Jamaica has been phenomenal. Effectively Digicel has become a more successful company than the decades-old incumbent in just four years of operation. While duplicating this success in other countries, we are rapidly gaining market share across our other operations as we continue to expand our Pan Caribbean network."

With the recent achievements of new licenses and acquisitions, Digicel is on its way to offer services in the near future in more than 15 Caribbean countries, covering a total population of 14 million people. The Caribbean company is focused on building a seamless Pan Caribbean network delivering enormous benefits for the region.
