Tecore Networks Wins Exclusive
Supply Agreement for Rural Mobile Networks from
Alaska Wireless
Tecore Networks, announced that Alaska
Wireless, has selected Tecore’s
Rural Village System (RVS) as the exclusive
infrastructure solution for the build-out of the
remote regions of Alaska. Alaska Wireless conducted
evaluations of multiple vendors, but found no match
for Tecore on the key criteria of a turnkey
solution, innovative features, reliability and
capacity.
Since launching operations in 2003, Alaska
Wireless has exceeded its expectations of demand,
and the growth of its customer base has fueled
expansion efforts into new markets. The company
found that most vendors of rural cellular
infrastructure could only provide parts of the
network, whereas Tecore has been delivering turnkey
mobile networks including core platform and radio
access network for over a decade. Alaska Wireless
was further convinced by innovative features such as
the patent-pending Over The Air Prepaid Roaming,
allowing operators to generate revenue from
out-of-network subscribers without roaming
agreements.
Tecore’s RVS is a
direct response to the challenge, faced by service
providers worldwide, of delivering a consistent
level of coverage and services to rural and remote
communities as in the main network given the lower
population density and revenue potential. The core
value of the RVS is a streamlined infrastructure
solution with a suitable cost profile, capable of
local coverage and call processing. Management
control and network operations are maintained via an
IP connection from a central location. With the
capability to support either GSM or CDMA, or both,
from a common platform, the system is compatible
with the majority of subscriber devices in the
market today. Additionally, the RVS provides a
comprehensive suite of TDM and IP interfaces to
enable connectivity with local PSTN facilities,
roaming partners and satellite backhaul as needed.
“For Alaska Wireless,
extending our service footprint to remote and
isolated areas while maintaining coverage and
service levels is a key factor in the growth of our
network,” said Mark Horne,
President of Alaska Wireless. “Tecore
Networks provided us with a robust end-to-end
product set along with comprehensive services and
support. Their primary competition proved to have
inferior reliability and nowhere near the level of
features and support.”
“Alaska Wireless has
been a fantastic customer for Tecore Networks. We
are delighted that their experience with us has led
them to select the Tecore RVS for their expansion
plans,” said Jay Salkini,
President and CEO, Tecore Networks.
“Our product lines are
unmatched in their scalability and innovative
feature sets, because we continue to respond to the
evolving needs of the wireless marketplace based on
our extensive field experience.”
