Trilliant and
Motorola Introduce iDEN-Based Communications
Solutions for Advanced Energy Meters
Trilliant Incorporated, and Motorola, Inc.
announced co-developed advanced meter
communications solutions for iDEN® public and
private utility customers. These real-time
solutions allow utility companies to better
service customers and reduce expenses with
flexible and scalable solutions that can be
integrated with other technologies and
applications to meet the evolving needs of the
utilities market.
"Our relationship with Trilliant has enabled
us to co-develop the industry's first 'underglass'
standards-compliant two-way advanced meter
communications products for commercial electric
meters and advanced gas meter instruments that
can operate over both Public and Private iDEN®
networks," said Jim Hanson, energy and utility
industry principal of Motorola's Enterprise
Mobility business. "Together, Motorola and
Trilliant have developed an ideal wireless
communications solution for commercial and
industrial solid state electric meters -- saving
customers time and money with secure
communications and data transfers."
Motorola and Trilliant offer support for four
of the major energy meter brands, including
Elster A3 Alpha®, GE kV2c+, Itron SENTINEL®, and
Landis+Gyr S4 families of meters. AMI solutions
for these meters are available now and use
Trilliant CellReader® Communications on
Motorola's private Harmony™ and iDEN®
communications networks and on Sprint/Nextel
public iDEN® networks. These advanced meter
communications systems can also support
over-the-air switching between public
Sprint/Nextel and Motorola Private Harmony
systems. The combined meter brands represent the
majority of all ANSI meters being sold into
commercial and industrial (C&I) metering
applications.
Motorola's Harmony system is a user-owned
wireless voice communications network designed
to provide mobile workforces with fast, flexible
communication services. These digital private
wireless systems range from large, multi-state
utility networks to small, single-site private
systems. The Trilliant CellReader meter
communications modules with integrated iDEN®
communications provide utilities with an optimum
solution for ensuring complete regional coverage
while fully leveraging investments in private
wireless networks. Thousands of meters with
integrated iDEN® CellReader communications are
already deployed at utilities in the United
States. The same module can support both
Motorola Private Harmony systems, as well as
public Nextel networks. These latest CellReader
offerings are the result of continued
collaborations and joint development utilizing
the latest iDEN® technologies.
"Motorola is an established leader in
providing communication solutions for
utilities," said Paul Karr, vice president of
marketing of Trilliant Incorporated. "The
CellReader solution with iDEN® communications
delivers the market's most flexible and cost
effective solution for utilities who have
invested in Harmony™ wireless network
platforms."
