Airspan Supplies WiMAX Solutions to Ulusnet in Mongolia

February 21, 2008

Airspan Networks Inc. continues to supply its MacroMAX base stations and customer premise equipment (CPEs) to Ulusnet, Mobicom's subsidiary in Mongolia, as the carrier builds out its WiMAX network. Ulusnet began offering WiMAX services in February of last year, using Airspan's WiMAX solutions.

Mobicom is the largest mobile operator in Mongolia and, through its subsidiary, Ulusnet, has deployed the first WiMAX network in this region. Ulusnet currently offers wireless internet service to residential subscribers as well as a broad range of commercial customers. The WiMAX network is being deployed in Mongolia's capital, Ulaanbaatar.

Airspan is supplying Ulusnet with its MacroMAX base stations operating in the 3.5 GHz band together with its EasyST indoor subscriber terminals. Airspan's WiMAX solution is a highly upgradeable base station designed for both fixed and nomadic applications for urban and suburban deployments.

Henrik Smith-Petersen, Airspan's Vice President of Sales and General Manager of APAC, commented, "Ulusnet's initiative is representative of the growing demand we are seeing in the Asia Pacific region for WiMAX solutions. We are working with Ulusnet to ensure that our solution will provide them with the coverage and diversity that is required at this point in their deployment strategy and that it will maximize their coverage to grow their subscriber base."

"We are proud to launch the first commercial WiMAX network in Mongolia and bring long-awaited true broadband to this market," said Davaakhuu Byambatseren, CEO of Ulusnet. "Airspan's WiMAX leadership in Asia Pacific and extensive experience in deploying large networks throughout the region were clearly evidenced by the trials we held with the leading vendors since last year. Airspan was outstanding in terms of product performance and feature sets."
