Broadband goes Mobile with Qtel

Qtel launched a new Mobile Broadband service which allows customers to access and use the internet at high speeds on their personal computer anywhere within Doha, Wakrah, Rayyan, Messaieed, Khor and Ras Laffan.
The new service provides laptops with access to the internet at speeds similar to the speed of home ADSL broadband.

The new service sits alongside Qtel’s existing WiFi and ADSL broadband services and offers true broadband flexibility.  With the launch of the new Mobile Broadband service, all a customer needs to do is purchase a USB Modem and a data only SIM card from Qtel and then subscribe to one of three price plans. The USB Modem can be used with both laptop and desktop computers and connects the computer wirelessly to Qtel’s 3.5G broadband network rather than to a wire or fixed telephone socket. It combines the benefit of high speed internet connectivity with ‘anytime, anywhere’ flexibility.

The new service is ideal for people who work on the move, those in areas that are not covered by fixed internet lines, or who simply want the flexibility to be able to access and use the internet anytime and anywhere within their home or at work.

As part of the service Qtel is offering customers a choice of three different Mobile Broadband price plans with different levels of data usage. The price ranges from as little as QR 100 per month for a 1 GigaByte data allowance to QR 300 for a 5 GigaByte data allowance. The USB Modem is being sold at a one-off price of QR 799 although customers who already have their own PC Data card or USB modem are free to use their own device with the new Qtel Broadband SIM card.

The launch of the new Mobile Broadband service marks another significant step in Qtel’s journey towards its vision of a ‘Broadband Qatar’ where simple and affordable high speed internet connectivity is available to all. The delivery of broadband services has the ability to transform lives by connecting people both to their community and to the wider world at large. It underpins the country’s development as a true knowledge capital.
