Perfect
connection at 180 km/hr
March 06, 2008
What will children
and managers soon have in common? In the near
future, long car drives will become more
entertaining for both. T-Systems is bringing the
Internet to cars with CARnected.
The only ones to enjoy the premiere of the
technology so far have been journalists in Berlin.
At the end of January, in a classy Bugatti
Quattroporte, they experienced the technology with
which car drivers of the future will be able to
enjoy a stable connection to cyberspace.
T-Systems is
demonstrating how the solution masters the constant
connection shifts during your trip with broadband
and without interruption.
Backseat desk
Of course, you should not be talking on your cell
phone or surfing the Internet while driving.
However, passengers in a car equipped with CARnected
can connect to their coroporate network via a secure
network connection, access current information,
answer their e-mail and schedule appointments. You
can also combine different online services to create
new service packages that provide assistance while
on the road via voice activation or display just
like today's navigation systems.
Take looking for an apartment as an example of how
the technology works. Before starting up the car,
you enter your criteria such as size, price and
location into a search function. Then you hit the
road. As you drive through one of your selected
locations, the navigation system notifies you each
time you near an apartment that meets your criteria
and is listed on a real estate portal. If you find
the offer attractive, the solution connects you with
the real estate agent with just the push of a
button.
Entertainment instead of
road rage
Parents can keep their children in good spirits on
long car drives thanks to the Internet. Your car is
transformed into an on-the-go entertainment room.
Kids in the backseat can watch TV or videos, play
games online or listen to their favorite songs on
the Internet radio. This guarantees that your
children will have fond memories, even if you are
just sitting in traffic.
